You've lived most of your life in Hampshire, and you think that you know the County. Then someone who has done some real research comes and talks on the subject, and shows you some magnificent photographs. The number of places of architectural and historic interest is astounding, and you think, "I really must get out more!" This happened at our meeting in September, when Una Lonergan and Beryl Green presented "Out and About in Hampshire." I started to make notes of the sites they had visited, but there were just too many. They compared a map of 1595, which showed only Winchester and Southampton, with one of today with all of the other major cities we now know. Then followed pictures and details of churches, memorials, stately homes, village squares, we even saw the Solent forts. Thatched roofs followed stained-glass windows, castle walls blended with scenic country views, and then Beaulieu Motor Museum. We saw a picture of three racing cars, the oldest could reach 100 mph - the latest 400. A bit quicker than a pony and trap!
