19th & 20th August 2000 – Memorial Hall

 'Pictures from the Past'

An exhibition of photographs of yesteryear Hamble

In conjunction with Eastleigh Borough Local History Societies Forum, and Eastleigh Museum, a pictorial history of towns and villages within the Borough of Eastleigh was also presented

For some of us, the exhibition of photographs held in the Memorial Hall on the    19 and 20 August was our first experience of assembling such a display. We know now that a large ball of blue-tack is essential! So are volunteers, and we had an enthusiastic team shifting tables, erecting stands and mounting photographs. They also acted as stewards when the exhibition was open, or made tea and coffee and - bless them - stayed on at the end to dismantle the display.

Over the weekend we received more than 200 visitors, many of whom made encouraging comments. For some the pictures brought back happy memories, and others were fascinated by a Hamble they had never seen before. Some brought photographs of their own to share with others, early post-war scenes, schooldays in the 60s and interesting aircraft.
