13th June 2000 - BP Oil Terminal

It was an enjoyable trip, and we were photographed standing next to a pig!
No, not a scene from 'Animal Farm', but a visit to the BP site in Hamble.
We spent an afternoon there in June, attending a slide show and a guided tour of the oil terminal.  Our guide, David Dawes, took us from the days when a tanker was moored off Hamble Common, to the establishment of the terminal in 1924, and up to the present day.  The "pig" by the way, was a clever device which travels through a crude oil pipeline, cleaning and inspecting it.
